HYBRIS
How can an evolving research process become navigable without becoming linear?
Context
HYBRIS is an ongoing art-based research initiative by artist Yana Zschiedrich. Since 2019, she has been exploring how mealworms can transform expanded polystyrene into biodegradable matter, connecting artistic practice with questions of waste, material cycles and possible forms of sustainable construction. Over time, the research has grown into an evolving body of installations, objects, experiments and collaborations.
Approach
Artistic research rarely develops in linear ways. Conceived as both archive and exhibition space, the website brings the different strands of HYBRIS together on one large canvas rather than organising them as a chronological collection. A dynamic navigation allows visitors to move between individual works and discover connections across the research while giving each part equal presence.
The identity itself draws from the project’s central process. As visitors navigate the website, typography gradually erodes, echoing the traces left by mealworms as they decompose polystyrene. The research method therefore becomes part of the interface, giving a continuously evolving project a recognisable visual identity.
