Infinity Pool

What happens when digital publishing becomes a space for exchange rather than presentation?

Context

Digital culture develops through exchange between different disciplines, practices and perspectives. Conceived for Studium Digitale at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, Infinity Pool was designed as a shared platform for students, researchers and staff to publish and explore their work.

Approach

Rather than organising contributions into separate disciplinary categories, the platform brings them together within a shared editorial space. Fluid transitions between themes encourage readers to move across projects and ideas, allowing connections to emerge through browsing rather than predefined paths.

Project documentation

Contributions are created directly on the shared canvas. A modular editor lets users combine and freely arrange text, images and links, and add tags. Each contribution can take its own form before becoming part of the Infinity Pool following editorial approval.
Users can freely position their contributions on the shared canvas, including between existing posts. This allows new thematic clusters to emerge through spatial proximity. A custom algorithm rearranges contributions when they are published, preventing overlaps while preserving their intended relationships.
