The Act of Collaboration

What emerges when multiple voices shape a single form?

Context

The Act of Collaboration was a group exhibition at Incheon Art Platform exploring collaboration as an artistic practice. Bringing together artists and collectives working across different disciplines and approaches, the exhibition considered how ideas and works change through exchange, negotiation, and shared authorship.

Approach

Rather than representing collaboration as a theme, the visual identity was developed through collaboration itself. Dokho Shin and I exchanged a composition back and forth, each responding to, altering, and adding to what the other had made. Images, typography, drawings, scans, and traces of previous interventions accumulate rather than resolving into a single visual voice. A different background colour paired with black gives each poster its own presence while holding the evolving compositions together as a series. The process remains visible in the result: authorship becomes layered, and the act of designing becomes an act of collaboration.
