Transparent Carriers

How can a book reveal and conceal at the same time?

Context

Alex Hojenski’s installation Transparent Carriers stretches between trees in a park, combining steel structures with translucent, patterned surfaces. The work changes with its surroundings: vegetation, light and architecture remain visible through it, while different layers overlap depending on the viewer’s position.

Approach

The publication translates this principle of transparency and layering into the structure of the book itself. Its pages are folded rather than simply cut, creating surfaces that conceal and reveal content as they are turned. Patterns derived from the work move between the visible and the hidden, while images, paper and print overlap throughout the publication.
The result is less a neutral documentation of the installation than a physical continuation of it: the book becomes a carrier itself, with information appearing through, behind and between its pages.
